Hi, my name is Lalo Williams.
I am an Audio Engineer and Music Producer, doing work in audio editing and restoration, recording, mixing and mastering and post-production, and music composition for background music and soundtracks for theater, movies, radio and television.
I have been fortunate enough to work not only with some of the most creative people in my local scene, but also to study and change experiences abroad with worldly renowned engineers, producers and musicians, in a wide range of conceptual and musical styles, from jazz and classical to progressive rock and experimental music, all of which allows me to keep learning and growing.
To do music for movies, theater plays, documentaries, experimental performances... to work with musicians and bands with an original and creative concept... to develop and produce an idea from conception to accomplishment... These are interesting, new and creative projects I would like to get involved with... conceptualy and artistically demanding... projects that are challenges.
I know I'm the right person for your project, so please do not hesitate to contact me to talk and find a way to make it happen.
Lalo
Walking the walk...
I studied flute and was part of the choir in a music school for children since age 6 until age 12, while at home my dad listened to Frank Sinatra and Stevie Wonder, and then I discovered The Beatles. I started with acoustic guitar at 14 after being introduced to Paul Simon's music, and with electric bass at 16, after finding a record of a band called Rush. At some point I played a little bit of keyboards (but just a little bit). I have been in different progressive rock bands since age 20 to 25. Then I studied harmony and composition with private teacher Jorge Madueño Romero, and taught myself audio and recording, and then I did a couple of terms in the Audio Program of The Banff Centre in Alberta, Canada. For the last 10 years I've been working as music producer for local bands's albums doing rock, progressive rock, jazz and classical music, and also been composing for theater, art expos, movies, radio and television shows.
I Produce... Therefore, I exist.
What is the job of a music producer?
First and foremost, to gain the trust of the artist, to put himself in the artist's place, so he and his music can be understood, where is it he is coming from and what is it that he wants to achieve musically.
To make the artist keep or get back his objectivity, because when a musician or a band is playing, performing or composing music for a record, one of the first things to easily fly out the window is objectivity. If someone is hugging a tree, there's no way for him to see the forest, and is the producer the one aware of that forest. The artist has to rest assured that his work and music is in good hands.
It is then that the producer has a clear objective for the musical concept of the artist, and is capable of making the right calls as to what musical tools and technics are most convenient for achieving it: Musical arrengements, search for new sound textures, recording and studio technics, musical and artistic direction, and many times even emotional support and some therapy!!
